Another day, another negative headline. Things have never looked bleaker for Team Sky, and it’s tarnishing British Cycling and affecting the confidence of a nation — both cyclists and non-cycling onlookers, nearly all of whom once held Britain’s sporting heroes and their support systems in the highest regard. Not anymore.

While the DCMS report fails to offer any concrete proof of wrongdoing, it does present a pretty damning assortment of circumstantial evidence — not to mention a written statement from Shane Sutton that Bradley Wiggins’s use of triamcinolone was “unethical but not against the rules”. Additionally, the assertion by a “well-placed and respected source” that Wiggins was using medicines “well beyond the requirement for any TUE”, is not easily dismissed.
