Slovenian adds name to annals of cycling history
As Primož Roglič (JumboVisma) rolled into Madrid to claim the Vuelta a España title and his usually deadpan expression broke into a broad smile, it was impossible to shake the feeling that the global order of Grand Tour favourites has undergone a generational shift in 2019.
Roglič’s victory was his first in a three-week race mirroring that of Richard Carapaz (Movistar) at the Giro d’Italia in May and Egan Bernal (Ineos) in July. While Roglič is the oldest at 29, none of the three Grand Tour winners of 2019 started riding at WorldTour level before 2016.
