Brit Banks Takes Maiden Pro Win At Giro Rosa

Van Vleuten climbs to second Italian tour victory
Lizzy Banks may have finished 68th in the general classification of last week’s Giro Rosa, over an hour behind overall winner Annemiek van Vleuten, but a stage win ensured her race was a huge success.
Having won only two road races since beginning competitive riding in 2015, the 28-year-old won last Friday’s eighth stage during the longest race on the calendar. Riding for Bigla, Banks escaped an 11- woman break in the closing 12km taking her first professional victory, 30 seconds ahead of American team-mate Leah Thomas.
