This is the Z-version of the DX 18-140 mm lens from Nikon, designed to be used with the Nikon Z 50 and Z fc camera bodies. The equivalent focal length on a 35 mm format is 27 – 210 mm. The Z 18-140 is an ideal kit lens, covering from wide-angle to medium telephoto. Let’s see how this lens performs in our tests.
Design & Build Quality
The Nikkor DX 18-140 mm f/3.5-6.3 lens (7.8x zoom) is designed for Nikon’s Z-series APS-C sensor mirrorless cameras. The external shell is made from engineering plastic which is quite strong and lightweight, but, it troubles me to see the plastic lens mount. Other than that, the lens appears well made.
The zoom ring is towards the front end and offers a 35 mm wide rubberised grip. The lens control ring, which by default, is set to control manual focus, is approximately 7 mm wide and appears to be made from aluminium and has a textured grip. The lens is dust and drip resistant (not guaranteed in all situations). The filter size is 62 mm and the lens is made in Thailand.
