To continue the due diligence theme, it’s about digging in deeply, further than you might be expected to go. The hope is that by applying some creative research, you may find some hidden gems that will give you a unique (or almost unique) opportunity to shoot. Nothing’s guaranteed, but experience shows that this often does pay off – it’s a journalistic attitude to shooting.

I wrote ‘creative research’, but is that possible? Can an activity so, well, like what a librarian does, be considered creative? Absolutely, in my mind. Some people leave research to others, sort of like out-sourcing the tedious work, but if you’re interested in exploring, you’re likely the best person to do your own research.
