Finding feedback

Discover how to get feedback for your portfolio that really elevates your imagery
There are numerous ways to get feedback on your photographs but three readily spring to mind: critiques, competitions and qualifications. Let’s see how each can bring value to your work.
Critiques
Critiques are the simplest way to get feedback on your images. They take different forms, from sitting one-to-one with a mentor, to submitting your photos as part of an online analysis along with numerous other photographers and a judge.
Being critiqued one-to-one will undoubtedly provide the most detailed information for development, particularly if you have chosen a mentor or assessor in tune with you and your work. Its very nature means it’s just one judge’s view, so it would be wise to get input from others, if you can.
An online critique is broader, with submissions from numerous other photographers along with your own. True, you may only have one or two of your images in the submission, but there is always much to be gleaned from others’ feedback. It is also less stressful to learn things when it isn’t only your work under the microscope!
