I intended to drive on route 66 to try and capture how it is today.

I drove thru many towns that developed around route 66 in its heyday, including gas stations, diners, and motels. When the interstate highway system was completed, it bypassed many of these towns. Most are now just ghost towns. But some survive by catering to tourists. Here is a short description of the Route:

U.S. Route 66 or U.S. Highway 66 (U.S. 66 or Route 66), also known as the Will Rogers Highway, the Main Street of America or the Mother Road. Route 66 is one of the original highways in the U.S. Highway System.
