March 2022

The most anticipated celebration of all time, with odd rituals, mouth-watering Mathris and Ghujias, DJs and Bhaang, and a sprinkling of colours, sparkles, music, and dancing. Take-A-Breath. That is Holi for you! In India, Holi is a time of year when people raise a glass to the country’s diversity. Where people of all castes, creeds, genders, ages, and backgrounds join together in harmony to celebrate the festival of colours.

Holi 2022 Dates

Holi is celebrated on the day following the full moon in March. Holi 2022 will begin on Thursday, March 17th and finish on Friday, March 18th. Although Holi is celebrated a day earlier in locations like West Bengal and Odisha, and a week earlier in Mathura and Vrindhavan.

Holi - History, Mythologies, Legends & Beyond

The Holi holiday has a magnificent history that dates back to the Puranas. So, identify your specialty, put on your inquisitive pants, and start reading.

Hiranyakashipu, the demonic ruler of Asuras, received a boon that granted him five magical powers a long time ago, somewhere in the Purana book (wait for it). He cannot be slain by a person or an animal, at any time of day or night, by Astra or Shastra, indoors or outdoors, and ultimately on land, sea, or air. However, his son Prahlada, a Vishnu follower, was opposed to his dominion. King Hiranyakashipu, enraged by his behaviour, sentenced him to penalties, but in vain. Finally, Prahlada was duped into sitting on a fire by his malevolent aunt Holika.

As the fire raged, Prahlada was covered in the fire-resistant cloak, while Holika burnt to ashes. Lord Vishnu then came as Narasimha (half lion, half human) at nightfall (neither night nor day), seated the king on his lap at the threshold (neither indoors or outdoors, nor on land, water, or air), and disembowelled the monarch with his lion claws (neither with Astra or Shastra) Holi Moly!

Although the holiday has different legends throughout the country, the essence of Holi lies in the triumph of virtue over evil. It heralds the end of winter and the beginning of spring.

MINIATURE MARVELS

Drawn to the hidden dramas of the insect world, Sandip Guha uncovers nature's quietest stories through patience, precision, and reverence. Since picking up a macro lens, he has captured moments as fleeting as damselfly mating rituals and as rare as spider courtship. His work goes beyond beauty, documenting behaviour, ecology, and the fragile poetry of life in miniature. Asian Photography spoke to him about inspiration, hardships, mistakes, bucket shot and more. How Close Should You Get to a Subject? Ethics in Macro

Macro photography is all about getting close — closer than the eye can see. It invites us into intimate worlds: The spiralled symmetry of a snail's shell, the fine hairs on a bee's leg, the dew resting on a spider's web. But as we close in, a question looms that goes beyond technique or gear: How close should we get?

OnePlus Nord 5 Camera Review - New Midrange King?

Last year, when we reviewed the OnePlus Nord 4, it left us wanting more. This year, the Nord 5 arrives with bold promises - it's the first Nord to feature a Snapdragon 8-series chipset and the first mainstream OnePlus device with a 144Hz OLED display. But what we're really here for is the camera - especially since it borrows tech from the flagship OnePlus 13. While pricing hasn't been officially confirmed (we received both the Nord 5 and CE5 under embargo), we expect it to stay close to last year's launch price - between ₹30,000-₹35,000. According to OnePlus, this is their most complete Nord yet. So, do the cameras live up to that claim? Let's find out!

DECAY DIARIES: DISCOVERING THE BEAUTY OF ROT, RUST, AND RUIN THROUGH MACRO

Decay is usually seen as a sign of failure, of neglect, corrosion, and abandonment. It marks the places we leave behind and the things we no longer touch. But for those who carry a macro lens, decay is not the end of something, but the beginning of a fascinating visual story. Up close, rot becomes a rich texture, rust becomes a complex pattern, and ruin becomes poetry. Welcome to the world of Decay Diaries, where beauty isn’t found in perfection, but in what is slowly falling apart.

Apple's iOS 26 Brings Changes to Imaging Experience, Camera APP and Photos

Apple's new design overhaul brings an update to the Camera app in iOS 26, iPadOS 26, and macOS Tahoe 26, making everyday photography feel more immersive and intuitive. The redesigned UI prioritizes easy reach for core controls while minimizing distractions. Buttons, sliders, and toggles now live within a refined control layer that adapts as you frame shots or switch modes. In the app, navigation and tools morph fluidly to stay out of the way until you need them, keeping the focus squarely on capturing the moment. WHERE DOES MACRO END AND MICRO BEGIN?

Macro photography opens the door to a world we rarely notice-a place where the texture of a leaf becomes a jungle, the surface of a coin a lunar landscape. But how close is too close? At what point does macro stop being macro and enter the realm of micro photography? The line between the two isn't just a matter of semantics. It's about tools, technique, and intent. In this article, we'll draw that line.
