Zydus Cadila's Covid Vaccine Clears First Human Trials

Indian pharmaceuticals major Zydus Cadila said on Wednesday its COVID-19 vaccine candidate was found to be safe and well-tolerated in an early-stage human trial.

The company will now start a mid-stage trial of the vaccine candidate, ZyCoV-D, in over 1,000 healthy adult volunteers from Thursday to test its effectiveness, it said in a regulatory filing.
The doses of the vaccine administered to healthy volunteers in the phase I clinical trial, which began on July 15 has been well tolerated, Cadila Healthcare, the listed entity of the group, said in the filing. The safety of the vaccine candidate was endorsed by an independent data safety monitoring board.
