Man Arrested For Raping & Setting Ablaze 18-yr-old In UP's Fatehpur

The victim had sustained 90% burns, remains in critical state.

After an 18-year-old girl was allegedly raped and set ablaze in Fatehpur district, the accused has been arrested by the police. The National Commission for Women (NCW) member met the victim at a hospital in Kanpur on Sunday where she is battling for her life with 90 per cent burn injuries on her body.

The women commission member Kamlesh Gautam met the victim and her family at the hospital in Kanpur on Sunday.

Speaking to media, Kamlesh Gautam said, “The Fatehpur incident is extremely unfortunate and horrifying. The victim said the accused used to thrash her. Yesterday he jumped the wall of the victim's residence to commit the heinous crime."

Meanwhile accused Mewalal was arrested by the police on Saturday evening.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Fatehpur Prashant Verma said, “The accused has been arrested and further action will be taken on the basis of evidence.”
