That the infrastructure of Bengaluru has collapsed is not news anymore. For, the BJP, which is in power in the state as well as the city, has chosen to live with the problem instead of evolving a long-term programme to address the issues at the grassroots level. Now, the latest addition to the bouquet of woes is the bursting of lakes and tanks, which have been crucial in maintaining the groundwater level in an overpopulated city.

In the last 80 days, three lakes, including the Hulimavu lake in the densely populated southern part of the city, breached causing widespread destruction of property and disrupting routine life. It was a miracle that there was no loss of life as flash floods inundated several apartments built in low-lying areas.
