IT was an unusually quiet New Year's Eve in Manchester city centre as revellers kept the celebrations modest following a difficult year.

Bars, pubs and clubs were open and ready to welcome in punters after no new coronarivus restrictions were introduced.

And though some events were sold out, many venues drew only modest crowds following concerns about the ongoing spread of the Omicron variant.
