Veteran sets up date with old club

CHESTERFIELD’S former Notts County striker Nathan Tyson struck a late winner to set up a playoff Eliminator against his old side.
The Spireites arrived in Yorkshire knowing that victory would seal a place in the top seven, but made hard work of it against a spirited Halifax side with slender play-off ambitions of their own.
Results elsewhere meant the Shaymen ultimately had no chance of qualification, but Pete Wild’s were in contention to the bitter end and spurned a wonderful chance to forge ahead after Darren Stephenson had cancelled out Liam Mandeville’s opener.
In the end, though, it was 39-year-old Tyson – signed from Notts County last year – who had the final word, climbing off the bench to stab home Mandeville’s low cross.
“I’ve worked hard to continue playing for 21 years,” said the former Reading, Nottingham Forest and Derby County striker. “So you’ve got to enjoy moments like this.
“The lads are fantastic and they make me feel young. We’re all together and it’s a great dressing room.”
