JAMES ROWE says the arrival of namesake striker Danny Rowe gives Chesterfi eld’s promotion push a “new energy” – but has hit back at suggestions he’s trying to buy success.

Former AFC Fylde goal-getter Rowe is back in Non-League having joined the Spireites on an initial two-year deal from Bradford City for an undisclosed fee.

It was a move which raised eyebrows among Chesterfield’s National League rivals, but the boss was quick to defend the big-spending club’s transfer policy with some first-team squad members still on furlough at the Technique Stadium.

Rowe tried to sign the 32-year-old earlier this season before the forward joined Bradford from League Two rivals Oldham Athletic.

But with front men Tom Denton and Akwasi Asante sidelined with long-term injuries, the Spireites boss made a fresh deadline-day move for his number one target – and admits he was surprised to get his man.
