BARNET will need more firepower to lift them-selves off the bottom of the National League but at least manager Tim Flowers was able to see a reaction from a disastrous midweek defeat.

The Bees sunk to the foot of the table on Tuesday night following a dreadful 3-1 loss at relegation rivals Dover Athletic, described by chairman Tony Kleanthous as an “all-time low” during his 26 years at the club.

Although Barnet were still unable to end their winless run, now stretching 14 games in all competitions, against leaders Torquay, they did show more endeavour and fight. An early goal from Ben Whitfield hinted at the floodgates opening, but the hosts made life difficult for the Gulls and they had to wait until substitute Jake Andrews wrapped up the points late on.

Flowers has lost all five of his games in charge yet believes this was their most promising performance.
