Edwards inspires his side to the summit

IPSWICH Town soared to the summit of League One with a ruthless demolition of struggling Blackpool at Bloomfield Road.

Goals from Luke Chambers, Gwion Edwards and Teddy Bishop put the visitors out of sight by half-time.

Gary Madine’s scrambled finish briefly threatened a comeback, but a fine solo second from man-of-the-match Edwards gave the scoreline a gloss that Ipswich thoroughly deserved.

“I thought we were brilliant,” said visiting manager Paul Lambert, whose side have now taken 13 points from their opening five matches.

“The football was good. The goals were everything you work on in training. We’re in a very good place at the moment.”

Truth be told, it is hard to imagine that Chambers has spent many training sessions thumping exquisite volleys into the top corner, but that’s exactly what the veteran right-back did when Edwards chipped a teasing cross to the edge of the box after 16 minutes.
