Kennedy grabs his EFL chance

- Tom Blackett

Mark Is Main Man At MACC

Some would-be managers may have steered clear of crisis-club Macclesfield Town, but Mark Kennedy insisted it was a ‘no-brainer’ to move into the hotseat.

Former Republic of Ireland winger Kennedy became the Silkmen’s third boss this season when he was appointed on Thursday, following in the footsteps of Sol Campbell and Daryl McMahon.

The 43-year-old had a stint at Moss Rose last season working under Campbell and is now relishing the chance to head up operations.

However, it won’t be a walk in the park. Heading into the yesterday’s clash at Colchester, Macclesfield were 22nd in League Two, having had six points deducted for EFL rule breaches. There is also a further four-point penalty hanging over the cash-strapped club.

Ex-Liverpool and Manchester City man Kennedy said: “It would be pretty foolish not to give myself the opportunity at Football League level, to progress and develop myself. You have to be comfortable in uncomfortable situations and I want to test myself.
