Time For Toll Bridge In Letterkenny?

Letterkenny Post

16 March 2017

A new integrated transport hub for Letterkenny, with park and ride facilities, feeder bus services, quality bus corridors, cycle-ways, and better pedestrian linkages – these were just some of the measures identified back in 2009 to not only alleviate traffic problems in Letterkenny, but to also pave the way for a more sustainable traffic management system in Donegal’s biggest town.

Time For Toll Bridge In Letterkenny?

The above were just some of the recommendations that stemmed from a report called the Letterkenny Integrated Land Use and Transportation Study (LUTS).

Recently I came across a copy of the final LUTS report – and it made for some fascinating reading.

Much of what was stated appeared to have real merit. There was talk of a new Transport Hub, beside the Port Bridge, with both Bus Eireann and private bus operators, feeder bus services, local buses, room for taxis and parking for those taking the bus to Dublin, Belfast. Galway, Derry or elsewhere.

The report noted that Donegal Co. Council had, along with a number of partners, submitted an application for funding to the “Gateway Innovation Fund for the implementation of a new Integrated Transport Hub. This application was for approximately €19.8million.

Nothing came of it.
