VISIT OF EXTERNAL AFFAIRS MINISTER Dr. S JAISHANKAR TO KUWAIT

The visit of External Affairs Minister, H.E. Dr. S. Jaishankar to Kuwait (9th-11th June 2021) was part of the enhanced political exchange on the 60th anniversary of steady and fruitful diplomatic relations between the two countries. The relation has assumed an unprecedented dimension of trust and care with the mutual pandemic outreach and assistance to each other. The visit was intended to consolidate the attainments of relations so far and expand new areas of mutual cooperation by building bridges of trust and confidence for the security and stability of the region.

The visit was a significant follow-up to the visit of the Kuwaiti Foreign Minister, H.E. Sheikh Dr Ahmed Nasser al-Mohammed al-Sabah to New Delhi in March 2021 when the two countries decided to establish a “Joint Commission’ co-chaired at the level of Foreign Ministers. All the working groups and dialogues mechanism will be conducted and supervised under the Commission to ensure focused direction and assured integrated outcomes with appropriate working groups in such areas as Trade and Investment, Defence & Security, Education and Skill Development, hospitality and Information technology. The whole range of issues to be covered under the Joint Commission and its intended process was discussed and it was decided to convene its first meeting towards the end of this year. Thus the visit has ensured a defined framework of mutual commitment for future cooperation.
