In 24 months, Dubai will host its global showcase which is being built around Mobility, Opportunity and Sustainability themes.
It seems as clear as yesterday, watching the euphoria among guests at the What’s On Awards as news filtered through the live TV feed that Dubai had won the Expo 2020 bid.
Five years on, work has been going on around the clock at the Expo site off the Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road – much behind-the scenes, some more overtly with cranes and infrastructure work now ramping up – and in two years’ time, the global showcase will open its doors to the world. The first World Expo in the Middle East, Africa and South Asia – running between October 20-April 20 2021 – will give participants access to 3.2 billion people and its central theme is ‘Connecting Minds, Creating the Future’.
