Much of what is involved in being a freelance session guitarist is musically relatively simple but involves a lot of pressure. For the purposes of this column, obviously I’m generalising somewhat – and this doesn’t include things like being hired to be second guitar in John Scofield’s band or similar. But I have found this to be true for the majority of my career in commercial music (for want of a better description).
