Embraer believes that India’s ‘Make in India’ and ‘Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-reliant India)’ campaigns are not only initiatives to boost Indian local industry, but are also eminent steps to make India a producer of critical technologies in the world, says Jackson schneider, President & CEO of Embraer Defense & Security in this exclusive conversation

EMBRAER CAN HELP INDIA ACHIEVE GLOBAL EXPORTER STATUS

What are the latest developments related to the kc-390 heavy lifter?

Since its first delivery to the Brazilian Air Force (FAB) in 2019, the Embraer KC390 Millennium multi-mission aircraft has proven its capability, reliability and outstanding performance on domestic and overseas missions, including a joint operational exercise with the US Air Force at the start of this year. The entrance of the Embraer C-390 Millennium into the market comes at a crucial moment where air forces and governments seek to update their airlift fleet and to incorporate aircraft with modern technology.

FAB’s current fleet of the Embraer KC-390s stands at four and these aircraft have exceeded 3,650 flight hours in operation, including its extensive use in operations to transport equipment and medical supplies across the country urgently needed to address the COVID-19 situation in Brazil.

What are the advantages of the kc-390 that could make it well-suited for future Indian requirements for a medium airlifted?

Brazil and India share many similarities and many Embraer aircraft are operated in India across the commercial aviation, business aviation, government VIP transportation and military areas. The versatility of the C-390 Millennium makes it highly capable to operate in India, undertaking a range of missions across different terrains with a high reliability rate. The C-390 Millennium is the most modern aircraft in its class, encompassing full “fly-by-wire” technology. The modern features of the C-390 and its impressive mission completion rate means that the aircraft can be part of a quick response team to address hostilities along India’s vast borders it shares with seven other countries or within.

INDIA'S CHINA CALCULUS AND THE POK QUESTION

India's strategic necessity in dealing with China and Pakistan is to compartmentalise challenges without diluting resolve. Improving relations with China should be an investment in bandwidth to settle the western question, and formalising the LoC as the international border with Pakistan remains the least risky path.

SHIELDING INDIA'S LIFELINES

From energy grids, pipelines, hospitals, data centres, airports, rail hubs, cultural and religious sites, military bases, to nuclear plants, India's critical infrastructure is the new target of visible and invisible enemies, seeking to paralyse the arteries of the nation. The Sudarshan Chakra Mission seeks to blend mythological inspiration with modern science in creating not only a military shield but a comprehensive national protection grid to confront the increasingly asymmetric forms of modern warfare head-on.
