Eye Spy!

Michelle spotted her son’s cancer while brushing his teeth.

Brushing my son Ethan’s teeth before bed, I froze. 

‘What’s that in your eye?’ I frowned, seeing a strange, white glow.

Ethan, then 23 months, was oblivious.

I wondered if it was just a reflection of the light, but as I moved, I could still see the glow in his right eye.

My partner Dean, 38, agreed it didn’t look right.

We Googled it, and what we read made us sick with fear. 

‘It could be a tumour in his eye,’ I gulped, terrified. 

‘I’m sure it’s nothing,’ Dean reassured me. 

The next morning, in September last year, I took Ethan to an optician, who referred him straight to Kidderminster Hospital.

There they examined his eyes before sending him to Birmingham Children’s Hospital.

Again, Ethan had his eyes checked.
