First and foremost though, we couldn’t talk about BSB without mentioning the reigning champ and our very own ex-road tester, Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne. In case you’ve been living under a rock, Shakey had a monumental crash testing at Snetterton and ended up braking all of his ribs, his neck and four vertebrae, leaving him in a Halo for the next three months in the hope that the neck will heal naturally. Three months from now brings us into September, and theoretically if all goes to plan then Shakey COULD make the last round. But will it fix okay, and if it does will he decide to hang his leathers up? The six-times champ has absolutely nothing to prove, being the most successful BSB rider in history, and only time will tell.
