Life of this simple but great singer is inspiration for those aspiring to try their luck in playback singing.
Singer and artist Mohammed Aziz, who started his career in the ’80s, reached those heights of success that are not easy to scale. He started his journey from Kolkata, and despite without being guided by any master musician honed his singing skill and worked with every great singer and music composer.
He still idolises the yesteryear’s great, Mohammad Rafi. He has sung approximately 18 thousand songs in 19 languages. In a chat with Alive at his residence in Malad, Mumbai he shares his experiences. Excerpts:
When and how did this melodious journey begin?
(Thinking a little) I was born in Kolkata. During my growing up years, I became inclined towards music. As I used to sing in front to my friends, they advised me to try my luck in music. Considering the great Mohammad Rafi to be my ustad, I began doing some stage shows. Success came along gradually. As I became more confident, it became a continuous process. I got my first opportunity to playback for a movie in a film named Amber, which was released in 1980.
