Every one of us is a different kind of traveller. On holidays, we look for things that delight, inform and fulfill us, and open our eyes to the world. Personally, I never need a reason to travel, and after spending just a few minutes with Ajay and Hema Chhabria at their home in Mumbai, I find that they don’t either.

The two jointly own and run Intime Travels, a travel firm that specialises in customised holidays, and in understanding the traveller in you. Set up 24 years ago as a small agency, Intime Travels is now a renowned, go-to service for almost any type of holiday, with Ajay and Hema’s personal touch.

Ajay comes from a grounded family of Shikarpuris in Mumbai, and Hema is one of six sisters from a large Sahiti family. The two met as adolescents at Sydenham College in Mumbai and hit it off from pretty much the first day. Cut to almost 30 years later, and the duo has set up a warm family home with their 20-year-old daughter, and of course, Intime Travels.

The agency had two beginnings – one pre-1994, when it was handled by one of Hema’s older sisters, and the other post-1994, when her sister moved to the USA and Hema took over. It was that same year that Ajay and Hema tied the knot, and decided to change the definition of customised holidays in the country.
