From having a head for business to discovering a knack for art, abstract painter Kishin Awatramani’s journey of Profession to passion has Tina Thakrar intrigued
-

Every single day for the past few years, artist and painter Kishin Awatramani has had a standard routine. Four hours at work, followed by two hours in his art studio, and to end the day, a musical rendition on his guitar. It’s these, apart from his wife, that form the most important cornerstones of his life.
Kishin’s creative streak first began to show itself through art – abstract paintings that are multi-hued and multi-layered, yet precise and neat. But as a business person who saw his liquor distribution business expand manifold over a couple of years, he claims that his creativity was always an underlying trait.
The first colour Kishin possibly identified with was red – owing to the red bungalow that he grew up in, in Deolali, Nashik. His father came to India from Pakistan, raised seven sons and four daughters with limited financial means, but managed to keep Kishin in boarding school in Deolali while the family moved to Mumbai. That was until his father’s untimely demise. At 12, Kishin was brought back to live with family, and at 15, put to work at the family liquor shop.
