Sony FE 100–400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS 1,99,990

- Sujith Gopinath

Completing The Puzzle

Sony has been steadily introducing lenses to tide over the deficiency in their lens line-up and the FE 100–400mm f/4.5-5.6 GM OSS fills the all-important focal length for wildlife and sports enthusiasts. Combined with Sony Alpha bodies, it supports 5-axis image stabilisation in combination with Optical SteadyShot.

Design and Build Quality

The 100-400mm GM lens provides a rugged feel with the main load-bearing parts reinforced with magnesium alloy and engineering plastic used for less crucial areas. The metal and plastic parts are identically finished and hence hard to distinguish. In addition to the focus and zoom rings, the lens also incorporates a zoom smoothness adjuster. The lens is dust and moisture resistant. A rubber gasket seals the mount to keep dust and water out.

The lens offers three identical focus hold buttons, which can be customised from the camera menu by assigning one from a set of functions. The 100- 400mm GM lens has a removable tripod mount attached to the rotatable collar. The collar and mount are quite sturdy and the release button has a twist and lock mechanism to prevent accidental removal.

The Sony 100-400mm GM lens weighs 1395g and measures 93.9 x 205 mm (diameter x length). It is threaded to accept 77mm filters. The supplied cylindrical lens hood has a non-reflective velvet inner lining.

Are you ready to pay the price for an incredibly thin iPhone?

I'm not going to lie; I'm a Pro Max kinda guy. Ever since Apple released the 11 Pro Max, I've naturally gravitated towards the biggest, mostest iPhone. The iPhone Air then is the kind of phone I'd expectedly veer away from, the antithesis of the Pro Max, a phone that prioritized slimness and hand-feel over camera versatility and battery life. But, three weeks of testing the Air has me reconsidering my priorities, appreciating the in-the-hand benefits I'd long forgotten.
