The revolution that started with Sigma Global Vision lenses has now caught up with their competitors. Tokina has christened the new crop of premium full-frame lenses for D-SLRs as ‘Opera’, implying that photographers can make every picture a work of art with these lenses. The 50 mm f/1.4 FF is the debut model in the Opera series.
Design and Build Quality
The 50 mm Opera lens is sturdily constructed with engineering plastic exteriors reinforced with metal, especially in the lens mount. The lens offers dust resistance along with advanced weather sealing. It is sealed at eight areas most vulnerable to dust and water penetration. However, Tokina clarifies that though the weather sealing enhances the water and dust resistance, the lens is not completely dust repellent and waterproof. Tokina has discarded the focus clutch mechanism in the 50 mm Opera lens and has replaced it with an AF/MF selection switch.
