Munich is a king of cities, finds Eleanor Doughty, with property prices rising up to 6% per year.
-
MUNICH can boast plenty of accolades. As well as being the third biggest city in Germany, it was named most ‘liveable city 2018’ by Monocle magazine and, according to the Globalisation and World Rankings Research Institution, it’s considered an ‘alpha-world’ city—a world centre. All this in a little pocket of south-west Germany famed for its beer halls and this month’s Oktoberfest.
‘Munich is the cosiest city in Germany,’ says Brigitte Landwehr, head of sales for Engel & Völkers Munich (00 49 89 2370 8300). Although there’s some 40 miles between Munich and the Italian border, Munich is often referred to as ‘the most northern Italian city,’ adds Mrs Landwehr. ‘We have the Bavarian quirkiness (think dirndls and lederhosen) and the Italian avant-garde.’
