James Forrest is on course for a League Cup final scoring treble, but he’s focused on team glory

JAMES Forrest goes into Sunday’s League Cup final riding a wave of phenomenal form. Not only has the 27-year-old dazzled for both club and country in recent weeks, the man who can’t stop scoring has a chance to etch his name in Celtic’s goalscoring history books.

Should Forrest find the net against Aberdeen at Hampden, he’ll become the first Celtic player since Bobby Lennox back in the 1960s to score in three consecutive League Cup finals.

The town of Saltcoats recently honoured one of its most famous sons by unveiling a statue in the town-centre, and it would be a fitting tribute to the Lisbon Lion should Forrest replicate his impressive League Cup final scoring record this weekend.

Against the same opponents in the 2016 League Cup final, Forrest helped Brendan Rodgers win his first trophy at Paradise as the Hoops swept Aberdeen aside 3-0. Fast forward a year, and Forrest made the scoresheet again when Celtic overcame Motherwell 2-0.
