It doesn’t seem that long ago when “eco-conscious” and “stylish” were concepts that seemed diametrically opposed to each other, with unwashed, badly-dressed hippies clutching unbleached cotton totes on one end and designer-clad, It-bag clutching fashionistas on the other.

But these days, buzzwords such as vegan, cruelty-free, ethical and earth-friendly have become increasingly important to fashion consumers, such that fast fashion and luxury labels alike have woken up to the fact that in order for their business to survive and thrive, Mother Earth has to as well. According to Forbes.com, more than half of the industry’s biggest players want at least half of their products to be made with sustainable materials by 2025.

It just goes to show how ahead of the curve Brit designer Stella McCartney has been, for decades.
