Can you write a love letter to ensnare a husband (or wife)?

A Love Letter

Reality programmes can sometimes be very informative and entertaining. I’ve watched most of the series of a programme on KykNET called Boer soek ‘n vrou – which basically means that single farmers on lonely farms somewhere in our huge country are looking for wives, and one possible chance of success is by inviting ladies who might be interested to write to them.

The farmers receive huge sacks of letters, and after reading them all (with the help of their smirking friends and sometimes shocked mothers!) they decide on about ten ladies who they would like to meet for a date. I’m always super curious to know what the winning letter writers wrote to grab the attention of the farmers. So I decided to try my own hand at writing a love letter to catch a potential lover... I haven’t done this in ages, but I’m sure it’s just like riding a bicycle!

Dear(est) John,

I must say that you looked quite sexy and attractive on TV, and so does your Case bulldozer in the background. They could have shown a little more of you, though, and less of the bulldozer. But between you and me, I can tell you that huge, powerful machinery has always made the earth move for me!

Since I’m not including a picture of me with this letter, I should probably describe a few of my physical qualities to enable you to get an image in your mind. I heard that some of your better qualities are a good imagination and very creative thinking...

Golden Oregano

Origanum vulgare ‘Aureum’, as its name suggests, is golden yellow in full sun and cool weather. These bright herbs are highly fragrant, with a classic oregano taste and aroma, and are often used in the kitchen for pasta and pizza. In summer, the yellow leaves will be covered with small pink and purple flowers.

Conifers generally are well-behaved plants with interesting, evergreen foliage and mostly formal and neat growth habits. This makes them stately candidates for roomy containers.

Daylilies make a comeback

Daylilies are making a comeback in 2025 with even more shapes, twists, ruffles, pleats, picotees, curves, and stunning colours and colour combinations. There are singles and doubles, big and small flowers, each unique, and yes, they only last a day! They do, however, have another flower bud just behind that one, ready to show off the next day.

Winter indoor plant care

Winter can be a tough time for your houseplants; a drop in natural light, drier air, and cold drafts can all influence their lush appeal. As plant lovers, spending more time indoors in winter creates opportunities to keep a close eye on your leafy companions and make some changes to avoid these common winter blues.
