Showers take centre stage as bathrooms offer a home-spa experience, writes Anél Lewis

While functionality is always top of mind when it comes to bathroom design, ways to elevate this everyday space into a desirable spa-like retreat are becoming increasingly sought after, say the experts.

Home owners are mixing things up – especially when it comes to showers where speciality features like rectangular-shaped shower heads or bold-hued trim sets introduce versatility and innovation into utilitarian spaces. They are also experimenting with colours and patterns; combining textures and materials to enhance the aesthetic of their bathrooms.

“Showering is therapeutic, and for some it’s even considered to have the comforting effects of hydrotherapy,” says Leon van Vreden of LIXIL Africa. “The fulfilment one gets from showering is all determined by the shower you choose in your home.”
