There were many lessons learnt in 2020, but probably the most crucial was the importance of creating a safe and comfortable home environment. This understanding continues to inform furniture and fabric trends for 2021, allowing us to create multilayered and multifunctional interior spaces.

THE BEAUTY OF BIOPHILIA

The healing power of nature is undeniable. So much so that Edward O. Wilson, a Harvard naturalist, was inspired to coin the term biophilia to describe humankind’s innate connection with and affinity for the great outdoors.

In 2021, the outside will most definitely be coming in – both with the use of natural materials, like wood and metal, and literally, with the addition of indoor plants, says the team at SHF Home. “If it’s a natural material, you won’t go wrong in 2021. We love this trend for its calming effect and that it makes us miss the outdoors a little less.”

According to Roche Bobois’s Sandrine Fanchette, “Designs will be able to adapt for comfort and new, unconventional materials will be used. There will be a good balance of organic and geometric forms and pieces will exhibit their own personality and character.”
