Hannah and Dave’s bright south-east London flat is a second-hand paradise and relaxed family home
Dave and Hannah’s home has seen quite a lot in the 10 years they’ve lived there. Sixth-form sweethearts, they moved in as students and since then the flat has hosted exuberant student parties, frenzied essay writing, DIY film projects and rapacious dinner parties, before eventually becoming a family home for their daughter Frankie-Rose. ‘Our landlord had some dodgy tenants before us and it was in a pretty bad state,’ explains music video director Dave. ‘A wall had to be rebuilt and large parts of the house needed to be replastered.’
Fortunately the bare bones of the building are very forgiving: large windows let huge amounts of golden afternoon light into the flat, which also boasts original fireplaces and large open rooms. After it was professionally cleaned, the couple got their friends over to have a painting party – ‘complete with fish and chips and champers, of course!’ remembers Dave.
