In these hot-button times of urban housing and autonomous living, family homes stand out as a beam of constancy in this fragmented world. It deepens the relationship with our homes, just like our closest human relationships. It is the joy of togetherness and belonging that sets them apart.
That is what the designer duo — Monica and Hardesh Chawla of Essentia Environments — aimed to achieve when they took up designing the family home of Delhi-based businessman, Manav Suri. Manav comes from a family that pioneered in providing high-quality fresh produce in Indian markets.
Nestled in Delhi’s Derawal Nagar, Manav’s home is built along the lines of a bungalow overflowing with epic artistic touches, that provides the family their individual privacy, and yet has unmatched shared spaces that exude the charm and warmth of living in a joint-family home. ‘Manav wanted a home with a lots of open spaces, natural light and an elegant ambiance in tandem with modern luxuries,’ says Hardesh. So, the guidelines were created to let in the ample daylight and an expansive space that breathes life into the home and is not crammed with things.
