Design Journey with Vinita Chaitanya

Sumptuous textures, foliage and the desire for fabulous living sum up the wholesome chi of Vinita Chaitanya. The Bengaluru-based interior designer gravitates towards an Indian aesthetic with a dash of Colonial influences. And over the past two years, she’s always been on our social media radar for her VQ Vlogs, the latest internet sensation in design.

We took a detour from the on-screen persona and delved into who Vinita really is. A successful designer, nature lover, traveller, proud mother and wife; one who’s navigated the design scene since the early 90s with great aplomb. She scapes through life with her vivacious smile and positive outlook and surprises us with her stories.

She takes us back to her upbringing in a colonial British colony in Bihar, which exposed her to the grandiose of the bygone era. “I lived in a beautiful bungalow with incredible verandas, playing croquet and cricket in all-whites, indulging in leisurely sports like swimming and billiards, visiting the local club,” says Vinita. This early lifestyle, which wasn’t defined by financial status, became the defining aspect that she’s gone on to imbibe in her projects, which chant the basics of good living.
