Architect-designer Nishita Kamdar amps up this Mumbai home with zesty hues and patterns

The 14-ft-long single slab of teak wood used for the dining table becomes the highlight of the living room. The entire slab rests on a slim concrete base on one side and a point support of the adjoining wall on the other side. Wielding succulent shades, bravado patterns, and ingenious use of wood, architect-designer Nishita Kamdar has electrified this 1,150 sq ft apartment in Mumbai for a family of four.

‘Everyone strives to achieve the perfect home and lifestyle that not only becomes their comfort zone but also an extension of their personality. The family wanted such a space that would suit their personalities — simple and modern,’ says Nishita. So, when it came to designing the home, it was no surprise that Nishita chose materials, furnishings, and accessories that would unlock memories and unspoken narratives, infusing the home with warmth and timelessness. ‘Since the client wanted a space to entertain friends, as well as retain the family’s privacy, the conventional solid brick wall was replaced with a light fluted glass wall and a half-height furniture unit, to visually make the common space look larger. The kitchen walls were also replaced with a sliding door to maintain continuity.’
