In a word, no. Layers of light from a variety of sources are the secret to making sure your bathroom is a relaxing and functional space that can easily adapt to different tasks. To achieve this, you’ll need a mix of ambient, task and accent lighting.

Q What is ambient lighting?

Ambient lights provide overall illumination. Downlights are popular, they are mounted on or recessed into the ceiling and direct light downwards. Avoid laying them in a regular grid formation as it’ll create a flat, bland effect. Instead, think about where you most need overhead lighting and focus on these areas.
