The places that act as an antidote to the volley and thunder of a city’s ambient score are to be shared only with those who understand the need for the secret in the first place. So, paradoxically, by writing this piece, I could be destroying somewhere that has become very special to me – my own secret space, which lies below my apartment in the Old Town of Edinburgh.
