Scotland has such a rich textile history and reputation.
But the stereotype of Scottish textiles is often limited to traditional tartans and tweeds; these are undoubtedly beautiful, but I am taking a different approach with my work. I currently only use superfine merino wool. It has so many amazing properties: it is a non-fibrous yarn that keeps the motifs and shapes in my designs sharp, and it is a natural, sustainable material that is made to last and to be treasured. I grew up in Inverness with parents who encouraged me to be creative, whether it was design, craft, cooking or painting. My mum is a great seamstress. I always remember her with the sewing machine on the kitchen table, making clothes and home furnishings. After a foundation course at the
