KIDS LUCKY ENOUGH TO HAVE THEIR OWN BATHROOM? THIS IS ONE SPACE WHERE YOU CAN TRULY PUT A LITTLE BIT OF FUN INTO THE FUNCTIONAL

- SARAH PICKETTE

Bathrooms - WATER PLAY

Toothpaste spatters, bubbles spilling over the bath, long – as in loooong – showers: home is always going to be a more harmonious place when the kids have their own wash zone. Bathrooms designed for children need to be robust and easy to clean, have enough storage for all their bits and bobs (and bath toys), and be safe for them to use. Involve kids in the decision-making – well, within reason! – and have a little fun with your selections. Colourful vanities, cheery tiles, quirky accessories: this is the spot for them.

Set the tone

Colour is king for kids and there’s absolutely no reason to hold back on using it in a bathroom, says Kate Walker of KWD, who designed this blue beauty (above and page 111) for her teenage son. “I would say don’t even think about resale, go as colourful as you like. I found these tiles at National Tiles and knew their watery tones would be perfect,” she says. A powder-blue loo from The English Tapware Company is another fabulous inclusion.
