We bought the house at auction and refurbished throughout, which involved opening up the old kitchen, now the dining area, and extending to create a new kitchen in the open plan layout we wanted. There were very few presses in the little old kitchen we inherited with the house and there was a very bad extension off it that had subsided.’It was at the very early stages of the renovation that the couple focused their attention firmly on the specifics of their new kitchen design and layout. ‘We went to one other kitchen company but we already knew of Ray Shiels (Shiels & Co). He has a great reputation, years of experience and we had a really good experience with Shiels & Co right from the first consultation. Ray was great with the design and nothing was a problem and Lillian was great, sourcing the handles and knobs for us; we had a really good feel about the whole thing from the first meeting.’
