Imperfectly Perfect
Better Interiors
|April 2018
Product designer Ranjini Nair’s Ta.Da features unusual tableware which appreciates the beauty in the ordinary and the humour in the routine. The designs here seek harmony in chaos and form in the shapeless, and celebrate imperfections.

It is not every day that you come across an individual who quit a high-profile job to pursue something their heart desired. Meet product designer Ranjini Nair — who was an advertising professional (and an art aficionado too) but resigned from the corporate rigmarole to channel her energy into exploring her own creative expression. After completing her BSc VISCOM in India, Ranjini pursued an MA Design & Art Direction course from the Manchester Metropolitan University in the UK, but only after working in advertising for 14 years and freelancing later did it dawn on her that her true calling lay in graphic design. “I started doodling more during my freelance days and put them up on social media. I have a doodle page on Facebook and Instagram called Jini_ ism. Surprisingly, the good response turned into many requests, rather new business ideas. I took the plunge and started a T-shirt company called Urbankart, ran it for a year and then kind of lost interest more because I was a new mom,” says Ranjini.
