Rubel Dhuna Architects perfectly balances two varied aesthetic vocabularies — classic and contemporary — in an 850-square foot office for the Jamsandekars in Mumbai.

Laissez faire is a gift which the client offers the architect when they have tremendous faith in the latter’s craft. This freedom — which is every design professional’s dream come true — often (if not always) translates into works of pure brilliance. Case in point, this beauteous workspace designed for Amit Jamsandekar (an advocate practising at the Mumbai High Court as a counsel on commercial law, specializing in intellectual property rights), and his wife Maithilee S Jamsandekar who is an independent management consultant. The couple gave the reins of designing their 850-square-foot office space to the gifted architect Rubel Dhuna, who heads her Mumbai-based namesake firm Rubel Dhuna Architects (RDa). Interestingly, the ‘Jamsandekar’s chamber’ (as everyone at RDa refers to this project) is one of the four spaces Rubel and her team designed at a famous landmark at Mumbai’s Dalal Street, the Examiner Press Building.
