Interior designer Minnie Bhatt creates a fairytale like refuge in the form of Fable in Mumbai, an all-day cafe whose ambience evokes Enid Blyton charm and celebrates the joy of reading.

If anyone asked me what are the things I’m most passionate about then without blinking an eye I’d say food and books. I literally live, breathe and get high on these two (how dramatic!). So when my Editor asked me to write a feature on the Fable restaurant, I literally jumped with joy and excitement. Let me tell you why…
Fable, an all-day cafe tucked in one of the quiet by lanes of the Mumbai suburb of Juhu, is all about stories. The space itself resembles a scene from a story book, complete with white fences and mounted flower pots, teak Windsor chairs with floral print cushions, chinaware on the walls and vintage lamps dangling from the ceiling. The person behind its timeless, classic and cheery vibe is interior designer Minnie Bhatt, who has previously worked on restaurants such as Nom Nom in Andheri and Burma Burma at Fort, both in Mumbai. Owner Ankit Anand approached her to help create a casual European-style cafe — “I wasn’t completely satisfied with the name the client suggested and therefore came up with Fable. The entire design concept then revolved around childhood stories,” she elaborates.
