Ice-dyeing is basically what it sounds like – ice and powdered dye are melted together into cotton or linen fabric to create a marbled effect. As this project doesn’t need much dye, there’s lots left over to refresh napkins and tablecloths. You can even use the same technique on cotton sheets and pillowcases.

Gather your supplies

• Plastic drop cloth

• Paper towel

• Cotton fabric, muslin, linen and/or lace

• Rubber gloves

• Soda ash dye fixer

• Baking cooling rack

• Glass baking dish

• Ice cubes

• Rit dye packs

• Colour fixative
