DO THE words 'Kitchener stitch' strike dread into your heart? Does trying to remember the progression of stitches bring you out in a cold sweat? Then we have a couple of fantastic solutions for you - an easy-to-remember alternative to Kitchener stitch, and a lovely, decorative graft.

FINCHLEY GRAFT

Kitchener stitch is notorious for being difficult to remember (I still have to look it up every time!). The Finchley Graft creates an invisible join for live stitches, and it's fantastically simple - do it once and you'll remember it forever.

1 Place right sides of your work together. If you are working a sock toe, you'll need to turn the sock inside-out to work this graft. Hold the needles in your left hand, with the points facing to the right. With the tail end of your working yarn, thread a tapestry needle.
