I Mould You So

Berlin-based ceramicist Latika Nehra’s experimental sculptures are a study in originality, but they also speak to a love for craft that demands unyielding patience, a quality both rare and refreshing in this age of hyperconsumerism, says SADAF SHAIKH

THEY CROUCH, THEY twist, they stretch— Latika Nehra’s one-of-a-kind sculptures are almost anthropomorphic in form, reaching for the hands that hold them, appearing slightly transformed each time you go back for a look. “That’s because clay is very temperamental. It directs you, not the other way around,” says Nehra. The 30-year-old was a graphic designer for almost 10 years before launching her ceramics brand Lailums in 2020, the lull of the pandemic galvanising her into actioning what she had always known: that she could do so much more with her proclivity for art.
